     Deputy Governor of Bangkok participates in the unveiling ceremony of the Ville Fantastique II Sculpture

 

Mrs. Wanwilai Promlakano Deputy Governor of Bangkok, representing the Governor of Bangkok to join H.E. Mr. Gilles Garachon, French Ambassador to Thailand in the unveiling ceremony of the Ville Fantastique II sculpture on 16 February 2017, at Benjasiri Park, Klong Toey District.

The Ville Fantastique II sculpture was created by Mrs. Valérie Goutard or Val, a renowned French sculptress across Asian and European countries. In 2004, Val settled in Asia and discovered the traditional know-how of bronze. Then she established her workshop in Bangkok. Many of her pieces of artwork was displayed in many  world class art exhibitions across Asia. The Ville Fantastique II was inspired by the complex relations between man and milieu and the way of life of people in a big city which comprising both identity and emptiness.

The installation of the Ville Fantastique II at Benjasiri Park is related to the discussion of Dr. Jingjai Hanchanlash, President of Alliance Française, Bangkok and Mrs. Valérie Goutard during the courtesy call on M.R. Sukhumbhand Paribatra, former Governor of Bangkok in 2015. At that time Mrs. Goutard offered her piece of sculpture to display at an area related to education and culture in Bangkok. Her purpose was to thank Thailand for allow her to learn about bronze molding technique. Then the Culture, Sports and Tourism Department worked on the construction of the foundation for the sculpture.

In October 2016, Mrs. Valérie Goutard passed away from a tragic accident road in Thailand, shortly before the installation of the sculpture finished.
