BMA. was honored to welcome Her Royal Highness Princess Léa of Belgium on occasion of Luncheon in honor of HRH Princess

                  On 26 September 2018, Pol. Gen. Aswin Kwanmuang, Governor of Bangkok, together with Deputy Governor of Bangkok (Mr. Kriangyos Sudlabha), Deputy Director-General of Public Works Department (Mr. Banjong Leungratanamat), Director of International Affairs Office (Mrs. Anusara Chuensuang), was honored to welcome Her Royal Highness Princess Léa of Belgium on occasion of Luncheon in honor of HRH Princess hosted by the Belgian-Luxembourg/Thai Chamber of Commerce (BeLuThai) at the Box Restaurant, So Sofitel Hotel Bangkok.

                   HRH Princess Léa of Belgium was also graciously welcomed by Mr. Alain Zenner, Belgium’s ex-senator and Government Commissioner for the Minister of Finance and State Secretary for the Minister of Energy; Count Gerald van der Straten Ponthoz, Chairman of the Chao PhyaAbhai Raja Siammanukulkij Foundation; H.E. Mr. Philippe Kridelka, Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand; Dr. Sutharm Valaisathien, President of BeLuThai,
Dr. Jintanant Chaya Subhamitr, Representative of the National Legislative Assembly;
Mr. Francis Vanbellen, Vice President of BeLuThai; Mr. Jean-Louis Graindorge, BeLuThai’s Board Member; Mr. André Nothomb, BeLuThai’s Board Member; and Mr. Marc Dehertogh, BeLuThai’s Board Member and Managing Director of Faber Flags Asia Co., Ltd.

                   During the luncheon, HRH Princess Léa of Belgium enjoyed a scenic background of Thai - Belgium Bridge that is the symbol of long-lasting relationship of the two nations.  Belgium, at that time, had an idea of dedicating the bridge to Thailand in order to relieve the traffic congestion at intersection of Rama IV Road and Witthayu Road (Wireless Road) by dispatching bridge parts to Thailand and assembling in Bangkok.  The construction project took place by closing the roads around the construction area from Friday 20 May 1988 at 16.00 hr. to Monday 23 May 1988 at 06.00 hr. It spent totally 60 hours to complete the construction project. To be highly memorable, HRH Princes Maha Chakri Sirindhorn graciously presided over the official opening ceremony of the Thai - Belgium Bridge.  
This year marks the 150 years of Everlasting Friendship between Thailand and Belgium,
since the first Treaty of Amity and Commerce signed in 1868, the 60 years of Smurfs and the 30 years of the Thai - Belgium Bridge.

                   In this regards, BeLuThai delivered the appreciation to the Governor of Bangkok and Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA)'s Public Works Department for
the dedicated contribution and support.  BMA officers have been working closely with
the Belgian Embassy in Bangkok and BeLuThai in maintenance and decoration of
the Thai - Belgium Bridge which represents the symbol of relations of two countries.

                   On the same day at 18.00 hr., Mr. Kriangyos Sudlabha, Deputy Governor of Bangkok, was invited to the Royal Gala Dinner, co-hosted by the Chao Phya Abhai Raja Siammanukulkij Foundation and the Embassy of Belgium in the Kingdom of Thailand at Valaya Alongkorn room, the Athenee Hotel Bangkok.  This event was officially held to welcome the HRH Princess Léa of Belgium and celebrate the 150 years of Everlasting Friendship between Thailand and Belgium, since the first Treaty of Amity and Commerce signed in 1868.  The Royal Gala Dinner was presided over by Mom Chao Chalermsuk Yugala, representative of Her Royal Highness Princess Soamsavali, to welcome the HRH Princess Léa of Belgium and congratulate the everlasting friendship of two countries.  Ambassadors and representatives of the embassies located in Bangkok, business representatives, representatives of the royal family, and distinguished guests were also invited to celebrate this special occasion.  Mr. Kriangyos Sudlabha, Deputy Governor of Bangkok, also signed the congratulatory book (the Golden Book) for the King of Belgium and King of Thailand on behalf of the people of Bangkok and the people of Thailand
