Switzerland's Ambassador to Thailand paid a courtesy call on Governor of Bangkok

           On 14 February 2019 at 10.00 hrs., H.E. Mr. Ivo Sieber, Ambassador of Swiss Confederation in Thailand, together with Mr. Bruno Odermatt, President of Swiss – Thai Chamber of Commerce, paid a courtesy call on Pol. Gen. Aswin Kwanmuang, Governor of Bangkok. In this regard, Deputy Governor of Bangkok (Mr. Chakkapan Phewngam), Deputy Permanent Secretary for the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (Mrs. Wiparat Chaiyanukij), Deputy Director-General of Environment Department (Miss Panitnart Tanaapinan), Director of International Affairs Office and BMA officials jointly welcomed at Amornphimarn Room, Bangkok City Hall.


            The Governor of Bangkok welcomed Ambassador of Swiss Confederation in Thailand and President of Swiss – Thai Chamber of Commerce. On behalf of Swiss Community in Thailand, Swiss Ambassador expressed gratitude to Governor of Bangkok and colleagues for welcoming and giving the opportunity to attend to consultation. The Swiss community in Thailand is not only Swiss people residing in Thailand which most of them are retiree, but also Swiss tourists visiting Thailand, SMEs entrepreneurs and large enterprises that invest and have headquarters in Thailand such as Nestle and DKHS.  In this regard, BMA and Swiss delegations jointly consulted about renovation of Golden Jubilee Stone Ball Fountain which was built for the occasion of celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Accession to the Throne of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Golden Jubilee) in 1996, and Princess Galyani Vadhana was the guest of honor in the opening ceremony at the front of Social Dancing Building, Lumpini Park. The renovation purpose is to make the fountain to be functioned again and provide access for Thai people and foreign tourists, especially children, to enjoy and experience this stone ball fountain.  The form of stone ball fountain is inspired by the Alp Mountain in Switzerland while water represents the streams on mountain of Switzerland and stone ball represents the Alp Mountain.  Swiss – Thai Chamber of Commerce will deliver the engineer team to survey and assess the fountain. The renovation process is expected to be completed in 2 – 3 days.  Moreover, the budget for renovation and after-service maintenance will be provided by Swiss – Thai Chamber of Commerce. In addition, both of BMA and Swiss delegations also discussed the date of operation and re-launching ceremony. The Governor of Bangkok wishes the renovation team completing the fountain before the coronation ceremony in May 2019.
