South Korea’s Ambassador to Thailand paid a courtesy call on Governor of Bangkok

Mr. Somsak Chatsuksiridet), Director of International Affairs Office and BMA officials welcomed Mr. Lee Wook-heon, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Korea to the Kingdom of Thailand and delegation from the embassy, consisting of Ms. Kim Eunjung, Minister-Counselor (economic affairs), Ms. Park You Jeong, Second Secretary and Mr. Hyun Yangwon, Korean-Thai interpreter, at Amornphimarn Room, Bangkok City Hall.

                   The Ambassador praised the beauty and charms of Bangkok exemplifying tasty foods, hospitable people and rich cultures that well combined in society.  Both Thailand and Korea cooperatively established the close and long - lasting relations in several aspects: economic, political affairs, culture and exchanges in many levels. Especially, the sister city relations were continuously operated on basis of friendship and equality between Bangkok and cities in Republic of Korea such as Seoul, Busan and Daegu. The Ambassador mentioned the serious city’s challenges that many big cities are facing nowadays such as particulate matter or dust problem, traffic congestion, etc. For this visit, the Ambassador expected to promote the exchanges and study visits between the two cities through sharing experiences and learning from city best practices in order to adapt the knowledge for development in context of each city. Also, the Ambassador added that Republic of Korea has launched an administrative city in Sejong.  The city is located approximately 150 km. far southward of Seoul and used as center of economy and culture instead of Seoul, which was centralized for diverse political, military and diplomatic affairs.

                   Lastly, the Ambassador had an honor to invite the Bangkok’s Governor and representatives to attend the Meeting of Governors and Mayors of ASEAN-ROK Capitals (MSMARC) which will be held at Seoul in October 2019 and persuaded Bangkok to apply for membership of the World Administrative Cities Association. In addition, the Ambassador proudly presented the advanced green technology for public transportation that is environmentally friendly and is able to alleviate the traffic congestion challenge in Bangkok.
