On 22nd January 2020 at 09.30 hrs., H.E. Mrs. Samantha K. Jayasuriya, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand, paid a courtesy call to the Governor of Bangkok, Police General Aswin Kwanmuang on the occasion of his assumption of duty in Thailand. Governor of Bangkok welcomed and congratulated the Ambassador for assuming duties at the Sri Lanka Embassy in Bangkok on 29 September 2019 and said that, on December 2019, Thai Government had received sacred hair relic of the Buddha from Sri Lanka which is enshrined at Phra Tamnak Petr or the Diamond Hall of Wat Bowonniwet Vihara temple.  The Governor had a chance to pay respect at the temple both officially and personally and added that Buddhism has been firmly established in both countries until today.  The Ambassador mentioned that Thailand and Sri Lanka have enjoyed a long-standing relationship which last more than 800 years.  Both countries used to send Buddhist monks to visit each other to propagate Principles of Dharma to prevent extinction of Buddhism which resulted in Lankavamsa Buddhism in Thailand and Siamvamsa in Sri Lanka. In this regard, the Ambassador informed that if the BMA hosts any Buddhist events, please consider inviting the Embassy to participate or join hand with the Embassy in organizing activities regarding Buddhism in Bangkok.
