Governor of Bangkok Participates in Shanghai Sister Cities Cooperation Forum

                   On 10 November 2020, at 19.00 hours, Pol.Gen. Aswin Kwanmuang, Governor of Bangkok, delivered a remark in the 2020 Shanghai Sister Cities Cooperation Forum, hosted by Shanghai, People’s Republic of China. The forum was conducted via a video conference with the aim to further promote exchange among cities and cooperation in the areas of business and trade in the context of a pandemic.

                   The participants had a discussion under the topic of “Urban Governance and Cooperation among Cities in the Context of a Pandemic,” while the Governor of Bangkok shared an experience on urban management and new ways of conducting international affairs amid the spread of COVID-19. The Governor also highlighted on the importance of cooperation among cities in withstanding and overcoming problems and difficulties for the benefit of the people.

                   The Forum was honored by the participation of governors, mayors, and executives from 12 sister cities of Shanghai, including Bangkok, Antwerp (Belgium), Buenos Aires (Argentina), Budapest (Hungary), Moscow (Russia), Chicago (United States of America), Dubai (United Arab Emirates), Espoo (Finland), London (United Kingdom), Osaka Prefecture (Japan), Phnom Penh (Cambodia), and Port of Spain (Trinidad and Tobago).

                   Bangkok and Shanghai officially established Friendship City Relations on 10 May 2016 to express an intention to strengthen friendship and understanding of their peoples. Both cities have been conducting various exchanges and cooperation, including exchange of visits of high-ranking officials, youth activities, culture, and tourism.
