City Information

 

        Saint Petersberg is a port city on the northweast of Russia Federation, located on the estuary of Neva River near Finland Bay in Baltic Sea.

         Saint Petersberg was founded by King Peter the Great in 1703 that began by filling sand and stones due to the former land was muddy and the king preferred the location on the basis of exit to Baltic Sea and easy accessible way to Europe and other countries for Russia's reformation to be equal to international. Later on Saint Petersberg got an alias the window of Europe and became the capital of the Empire of Russia for 206 years (its capital was changed to Moscow in 1918). The former name of Saint Petersberg was Petrogad (which had been using during 1914-1924) and Leningrad (had been using during 1924-1991).

       Nowadays, Saint Petersberg has population over 4.7 millions. It is the second largest city of Russia and is a World Heritage of UNESCO.

Agreement

Saint Petersberg of Russia Federation signed on Sister City Agreement with Bangkok by Dr. Bhichit Rattakul (Governor of Bangkok) and Mr. Vladimir Yakovlev (Governor of Saint Petersberg) on the 20th June 1997 at Saint Petersberg. The relationship of Bangkok and Saint Petersberg has been going on very well.

514-16 July 2003 Mr. Samak Sundaravej (Governor of Bangkok) with officers paid a courtesy call on Mr. Alexander D. Belglov (Acting Governor of St. Petersberg) to revive relationship of both cities.   St. Petersberg.
